Introduction to World Wide Web Technology

WebMasters is a beginning level course in computer networks and networking. The focus is on the World Wide Web, and creation of resources for serving on the Web, but other related topics (email, file transfer techniques, image acquisition and manipulation, video conferencing, and computer presentation technology) are presented. The course presumes a good working knowledge of computer operating systems (Macintosh and/or DOS/Windows), but assumes no prior experience with computer networks or the World Wide Web.

Everything needed to successfully establish and operate a site on the Web is linked on these pages (either as tutorial notes or as references to other Web sites).

Resource Materials
Links to obtain the software you'll need for the course are listed below. Be sure you have a word processor (a simple text editor will do), file transfer application (Fetch or WS_FTP), and of course, the latest version of your favorite Web browser.

Now You're Ready to Begin
Proceed through the lessons in order. It will be helpful if your computer has enough RAM to have your word processing, file transfer, and Web browsing programs open at the same time. For example, this might mean having Word, WS_FTP, and Netscape open simultaneously. You can then "toggle" or switch from program to program as you create, proof, and view your files prior to sending them to the server.

Enough talk, let's go to the lessons!
