A group of FHS members attended the annual convention of the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada during the first week of August. The trip proved to be a valuable experience for all.

The 92nd Annual Meeting of the ASHS and the 40th Congress of the Canadian Society for Horticultural Science (CSHS) convened at the Palais des Congres in Montreal offering a wide range of horticultural activities for undergraduates. Students attending had the opportunity to view some of the latest research and findings in the field through oral and paper presentations. Our own Traci Armstrong gave an oral presentation concerning ornamental grasses and their introduction into the market.

Other highlights included a trip to Montreal's botanical garden (the second largest in the world) and the chance to visit the Biodome of Montreal, housing a wide variety of plant and animal wildlife. Also, a myriad of sites around the city kept everyone busy. The charm of Old Montreal, the underground city, and breathtaking architecture add to the list of memorable experiences.

The collegiate branch (ACB) held a commodity judging contest during the week providing a dose of competition between universities. The club's team consisted of David Hamada, Julie Howe, Douglas Maxwell, and Melanie Ulrich. Also competing in the contest were Carlos Lazcano and Albert Minjares. Vice-president of the ACB and working with the contest was FHS member StevenObst.

New officer elections were held and ACB members decided upon Traci Armstrong as the 1995-96 vice-president. Congratulations Traci!

Next year's annual convention of the ASHS will be held in Lexington, Kentucky on October 6-10, 1996. FHS members are encouraged to become active in the club and aspire to be a part of Kentucky in '96.
